Health begins in the mouth

A balanced oral flora protects us from tooth decay and periodontal disease and supports the oral immune defense against viruses and bacteria

It is well known how important the intestinal flora is for our health. But hardly anyone talks about the importance of a balanced oral flora, which also protects us from diseases. A community of billions of microorganisms exists not only in our intestines, but also in our mouths. The oral cavity is considered the first entry point for pathogenic viruses, fungi and bacteria. That's why a balanced oral flora is particularly important for our health.

How does an imbalance in the oral flora occur?

The bacterial balance in the mouth is often disturbed. Poor oral and dental hygiene, poor nutrition, especially the consumption of sugary foods and drinks, smoking and alcohol consumption, metabolic diseases such as diabetes, lack of salivation, which occurs particularly in older people, or taking antibiotics can promote a bacterial imbalance in the mouth.

The result: tooth decay, gum inflammation and periodontal disease, bad breath and susceptibility to colds.

Caries alarm in children – periodontal disease in older people!

According to the current dental report 2020 1 Tooth decay in children is on the rise again. According to this, one in three twelve-year-old children suffers from tooth decay in their permanent teeth. The reason for this is always a disturbed bacterial balance in the oral flora. Harmful bacteria can also trigger gum inflammation and subsequently lead to the destruction of the periodontium and tooth loss.

The solution: Building healthy oral flora

One mouth germ in particular plays a crucial role in building healthy oral flora: Streptococcus salivarius. It belongs to the most useful group of bacteria in the mouth and is the predominant type of bacteria in healthy oral flora. In particular, the bacterial strain Streptococcus salivarius M18 produces antibacterial agents against pathogens, thereby displacing or killing them. At the same time, Streptococcus salivarius M18 releases enzymes that dissolve plaque and neutralize harmful acids in the mouth. Streptococcus salivarius bacteria are among the most important bacteria that keep the body healthy because they are the main gatekeepers when it comes to preventing the entry and survival of disease-causing microorganisms. A large number of clinical studies confirm the effect of Streptococcus salivarius M18.

Modern oral hygiene

With just one lozenge of an oral probiotic daily, such as Probiom Dental®, we can bring the oral flora back into balance. In order to achieve lasting protection, it is recommended to take it for at least 3 months. The tablet is sucked in the evening before going to bed so that the bacteria can colonize overnight. It tastes pleasantly of mint and is suitable for young and old, i.e. the entire family (children aged 3 and over). Each tablet contains at least one billion Streptococcus salivarius M18 bacteria, which displace disease-causing bacteria and thus ensure a healthy, immune-strong environment.

In addition to standard oral hygiene, oral probiotics such as Probiom Dental® offer additional potential for maintaining health and are a useful addition to daily dental care. A healthy and balanced oral flora not only protects teeth and gums, but also strengthens the oral immune system against viruses and bacteria , which is particularly important in current times.
