Health begins in the mouth

Mundgesundheit

It is well known how important intestinal flora is for our health. But hardly anyone talks about the importance of a balanced oral flora, which also protects us from diseases. A community of billions of microorganisms exists not only in our intestines, but also in our mouths. The oral cavity is considered the first entry point for pathogenic viruses, fungi and bacteria. That is why a balanced oral flora is of particular importance for our health.

How does an imbalance of the oral flora occur?

The bacterial balance in the mouth is often disturbed. Poor oral and dental hygiene, poor diet, especially the consumption of sugary foods and drinks, smoking and alcohol consumption, metabolic diseases such as diabetes, lack of salivation, which occurs particularly in older people, or the use of antibiotics can promote a bacterial imbalance in the mouth.

The result: tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontitis, bad breath and susceptibility to colds.

Caries alarm in children – periodontitis in the elderly!

According to the current 2020 dental report 1 , tooth decay in children is on the rise again. According to the report, one in three twelve-year-old children suffers from tooth decay in their permanent teeth. The cause of this is always a disturbed bacterial balance in the oral flora. Harmful bacteria can also trigger gum inflammation and, in the further course, lead to the destruction of the periodontal ligament and tooth loss.

The solution: building a healthy oral flora

One oral germ in particular plays a crucial role in the development of a healthy oral flora: Streptococcus salivarius. It belongs to the most useful group of bacteria in the mouth and is the predominant type of bacteria in a healthy oral flora. The bacterial strain Streptococcus salivarius M18 in particular produces antibacterial agents against pathogens, thereby displacing or killing them. At the same time, Streptococcus salivarius M18 releases enzymes that dissolve dental plaque and neutralize harmful acids in the mouth. Streptococcus salivarius bacteria are among the most important bacteria that keep the body healthy because they are the "main gatekeepers" when it comes to preventing the access and survival of pathogenic microorganisms. A large number of clinical studies confirm the effectiveness of Streptococcus salivarius M18.

Modern oral hygiene

With just one lozenge of an oral probiotic a day, such as Probiom® Dental, we can bring the oral flora back into balance. In order to achieve long-term protection, it is recommended to take it for at least 3 months. The tablet is sucked in the evening before going to bed so that the bacteria can settle overnight. It has a pleasant mint taste and is suitable for young and old, i.e. the whole family (children from 3 years of age). Each tablet contains at least one billion Streptococcus salivarius M18 bacteria, which displace pathogenic bacteria and thus ensure a healthy, immune-strong environment.

In addition to standard oral hygiene, oral probiotics such as Probiom® Dental offer additional potential for maintaining health and are a useful addition to daily dental care. A healthy and balanced oral flora not only protects teeth and gums, but also strengthens the oral immune system against viruses and bacteria, which is particularly important in these times.
